History of Library Park
The City of Fort Collins as we know it today grew around Library Park!
In 1873, the first settlers had, in their plan for the newly incorporated city, allotted for two small public parks, one being Lincoln Park, (present day Library Park).
On April 20, 1903, a petition signed by various members of the Library Board, the Women’s Club, the Columbian Club, and the O.T.A Club was presented to city council asking that the new Carnegie library be built in Lincoln Park. After a lively discussion, the council majority voted to place the building in a west central location of the property. Over the years the park has seen a lot and much of its history has been preserved.
Lincoln Park was renamed Library Park in the 1970s to avoid confusion with the new Lincoln Center on Meldrum Street.
