A User-Friendly Digital Experience

The new catalog improves the digital experience with a cleaner interface and quicker access to search results. A few highlights of the new catalog include:

  • Filter easily by material type in a catalog search.
  • Adaptable search that adjusts for small spelling mistakes while searching.
  • Check out digital items from the catalog search without going to another website or app.
  • View physical and digital checkouts in My Account.
  • Create personal item lists, ratings, and comments on materials to share with others.

To switch between English and Spanish languages while navigating the catalog, select the link in the top left corner of the site that features a globe icon.

To get started with the new catalog, you’ll be prompted to set up an account.
This account will retain information from your previous catalog account and is necessary to begin exploring with the new catalog.

First, click login/my account in the menu, located in the top right corner of the page. Then click my account.

This will take you to the login screen where you use your existing library barcode number and PIN to create an account.

After entering them, verify your information.

We ask for date of birth to comply with age-related privacy laws for children under the age of 13.

Next, you’ll be prompted to create a username.

Usernames will show in any public content you choose to post in the catalog, including in book reviews, comments, and more.

These functions are shared across all library systems that use this catalog.

There are over 10 million users, so it may take a couple of tries to create a unique username. Finally, you’ll accept the terms and conditions of use.
Now let’s move on to using the search function. This powerful new feature allows you to search the catalog by keyword, title, author, subject, and more.

One of the most powerful ways to use the catalog smart search capabilities is with keyword search.

Regardless of the type of search you’ll use, you’ll find suggestions pop up as you type, and even corrections for misspellings in your search term.

Results will display the most popular items first.

You’ll find a variety of information in the results, including a book’s title, format, and
you can further refine your search results using the filters on the left side of the page. If you’re looking for a title available at a particular location,

Navigate to the Available At part of the filter bar and make a selection.

If I wanted to check out the e-audiobook of a title, I could select Downloadable Audiobook in the Audiobook section of the filter menu.

You can also place holds on digital items from Libby/Overdrive directly in the catalog.

The filter bar also allows you to sort in a variety of ways, including format, intended audience, language, and more.

When you click on a title, you’ll see additional information like ratings, summaries, and more.

One new feature is the ability to review and rate materials in the catalog, similar to Goodreads.

Your ratings and reviews can be public or private, depending on what you choose in your account settings.

Next, we’ll learn how to place holds and manage your library borrowing. To place a hold, you must be logged into your account.
And choose from multiple ways to place a hold, including directly in the title listing or in search results.

Just click the green “Place Hold” button in your desired format.

To manage your borrows, open the account menu and select either “Checked Out” or “On Hold.” We’ll take a look at the holds page first.

In the top part of the page, you’ll see a summary of hold items organized into stages of readiness.

The item listing shows everything you need to know, including the hold’s format, your place in line, and for physical holds, the pickup location.

You can pause or cancel holds from this page or limit your view to only physical or digital items.

The checked out page is very similar to the holds page. The left sidebar shows a summary of due dates. Details of checked out items can be found in this list.
There are a number of settings you can adjust to customize your experience in the catalog.

They can be accessed through the login/my account dropdown menu in the top right corner and under the My Settings option in this menu.

You can update your email address, username, pin, and manage saved searches, adjust your pickup location, manage your privacy for community content like reviews and ratings, or enable and disable borrowing history.

4 minutes, 43 seconds
If you always pick up your holds at the same location, you can enable single-click holds in your account settings.

One way to see an overview of your account in one place is by navigating to My Library Dashboard, which shows your checked-out items, the items you have on hold, read-alikes, and other ways to interact with the catalog.

We hope you enjoy getting familiar with the new catalog.
