Library Text Alerts

Español

Never miss a hold notice! You can sign up for text alerts for your library card. We'll let you know when your holds are available for pickup, and when items are due or overdue.

How Do I Sign Up?

What kinds of notifications will I get?

Once signed up, you will automatically receive notifications about holds, overdue items, and renewals.

Text notifications apply to physical items only. Notifications for digital items are delivered via email.

How do I use the service?

Use keyword commands to check the status of your library account. Some frequently used keywords:

Can I change the types of notification I receive?

Yes. Texting the keyword to 844-203-5201 will turn off that type of notice. Text the keyword again to turn the notifications back on.

Keyword List (English)

  • ADDCARD: Add a secondary library card to your notification account
  • DROPCARD: Remove a secondary library card (you will still receive notices for the primary library card)
  • MYCARDS: Generates a numbered list of the barcodes currently registered to your phone
  • IOWEU: See the current fees total on your account
  • SWITCHPHONE: Change the phone number receiving texts
  • RESEND: Resend the last message
  • HELP: Get help with a command. (e.g., type HELP CHX to get help with that command)
  • QUIT or STOP: Stop receiving text alerts and quit the messaging service
  • CHX: Cancel hold items
  • RA: Service will attempt to renew all items and will reply with a list of items that were successfully and unsuccessfully renewed
  • OL: Generates a numbered list of all overdue items eligible for renewal
  • OA: Service will attempt to renew all overdue items and will reply with a list of items that were successfully and unsuccessfully renewed
  • MYBOOKS: Inquire about the status of all of your library items
  • HL: Get a list of holds that are ready to pick up
  • RHL: Get a list of holds expiring soon
  • RI: Get a list of items that are coming due and that cannot be renewed
  • RL: Generates a numbered list of renewable items

Text Alerts FAQs

Use your mobile device to sign up for text alerts.

  • For English text SIGNUP to 844-203-5201
  • For Spanish text REGISTRESE to 844-203-5201
  • When prompted, enter your library card number (full number with no spaces) and 4 digit PIN
  • HOLDS – sent when an item is ready for pick up
  • RENEWALS – sent 1 day before the due date, with an option to renew if possible
  • OVERDUE – sent when an item is 1 day past the due date

Yes. If you do not want to receive a specific alert, send the keyword to stop the alert. For example, text HOLD and you will not get an alert when a hold is ready for pickup. Text HOLD again and these texts will resume.

Yes. You can manage multiple library cards from the same phone number as long as you have the library card barcode and 4-digit PIN. Text ADDCARD to 844-203-5201 to register a new library barcode to your phone for notices. Use DROPCARD to remove a card.

Texts will be sent only when activity on your account triggers a message and will be sent between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. MST/MDT. There may be a slight delay in message notifications so your mobile carrier does not flag or blacklist the message as spam.

Standard texting rates apply. Please check with your mobile phone carrier for rates. You can expect a larger volume of text messages with this service.

Shortly after signing up for the text service, you should receive a confirmation text. If you do not receive the confirmation message, text MYCARDS to verify the registered library cards.

You can also text HELP to 844-203-5201 for assistance.

Restart with the keyword SIGNUP. You will be asked to input your barcode again.

Text SWITCHPHONE to 844-203-5201 to update the phone number receiving texts. You will be prompted to provide the barcode you want to switch and then the PIN. The system will then make the switch and look for and resend any messages from the library over the last few days.
