If you follow library-industry news, then you might be aware that one of Poudre Libraries’ book distributors, Baker & Taylor (B&T), ceased operations in early October. Their closure has had a disruptive ripple effect, impacting book orders and delivery times for many libraries across North America and causing publishers to scramble to find new distribution channels.
Fortunately, Poudre Libraries receives the majority of our new releases from the distributor, Ingram Library Services. However, because of the B&T closure, many libraries have switched their business to Ingram resulting in an influx of business from new libraries (or larger orders from existing libraries). This is causing delays in receiving our orders.
Usually, we receive items close to the publication date. Currently, shipments are arriving 1-2 months after the publication date.
What We’re Doing
Once new books are received, our Collections staff will prioritize processing items with holds. Items without holds will be processed next.
We expect to experience continued delays in getting new release books from our suppliers as they work to hire and train additional staff. We are committed to getting new items onto shelves and into your hands as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to deliver new books and authors to you.
